Bohórquez Riserva 2009 consists of 88% Tempranillo, the typical grape variety from the Ribera del Duero, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. Dense, clear red, full in the mouth with velvety tannins, beautifully balanced with pleasant acidity, complex and multi-layered, wood tones are in the background, therefore beautifully fruity with a persistent finish - a great wine at a reasonable price.
Bodegas Bohórquez was founded 20 years ago by Javier Bohórquez in Pesquera del Duero. Through his focus on quality and his efforts to produce the best possible wine on his terroir, he has received great recognition in just a few years. He supports sustainable work in the wine cellar, all water is recycled, and work in the vineyard and wine cellar is converted to biodynamic.
His vineyards are located at 1000m in the highest areas of the Ribera del Duero. There is often snow in winter and temperatures are a little lower in summer, which means that the grapes ripen more slowly. This means that his wines are not powerful, but elegant, subtle and aromatic. His vineyards have a high plant density, which sparks competition between the vines. This also means a smaller harvest per grapevine and high quality grapes. Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are grown.
